The annual Asian International Art Exhibition (AIAE) was initiated in 1985, growing from three to fourteen participating countries over the subsequent 24 years. Each year, the AIAE is hosted by a different nation through its local Federation of Asian Artists (FAA) Country Committee which is responsible for organizing and managing the exhibition. Under the guidance of the FAA, the AIAE has grown to become an important international vehicle for strengthening international cultural relations and as a platform for developing contemporary Asian art.
Mongolia’s debut appearance was made at the 19th AIAE held in Fukuoka, Japan, 2004. This was followed over subsequent years by participation in the 20th (The Philippines), 21st (Singapore), 22nd (Indonesia) and 23rd (China) exhibitions. With a focus on contemporary art and cultural exchange, the AIAE has provided an exciting platform for connecting Mongolian art with the broader Asian region.
The 25th AIAE will be hosted by the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery from 15th September to 21st November 2010. The exhibition will display over 200 works by artists from thirteen countries and it is anticipated that the opening program will be attended by 120 visiting artists and arts professionals. Over forty Mongolian artists will be featured as part of this dynamic show. The participating countries in the 25th AIAE are: Japan, Thailand, The Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Taiwan and Mongolia.
Hosting the 25th AIAE is a major opportunity for Mongolia to increase its international cultural profile as well as to expose the broader Mongolian community to contemporary art from the Asian region. Under the title Asian Spirit, Blue Sky, the theme of the 25th AIAE is related to environmental balance and change. It encourages artistic exploration of changing environmental conditions and the various cultural understandings of human-environment relationships. Such a theme-based exhibition will make an important contribution in the local art field and also develop a broader public appreciation for the social role of art to highlight topical issues and convey multiple perspectives.
This exciting exhibition event is expected to lead to significant long-term benefits, including future collaborative cultural projects and the ongoing development of Mongolian contemporary expressions in dialogue with the broader world of art.
Opening ceremony: 18.00 o’clock, 5th of September. /Only for delegates, invitation and press news/
